Lampwork

As early as around 2300 BC in places like Mesopotamia, beads were being made using a flame or a heat source and melting glass around a mandrel which has had a layer of mud or clay wrapped around it in what is known as 'core forming'. The core method is still in use today, and is the oldest of the various lampworked glassmaking techniques.
